And then there was free internet.....
So I was sitting on my couch this evening and I wanted to show Eric a picture of my sisters bridesmaids dresses, when all of the sudden we realized that one of our neighbors just got wireless internet service! Now, is it ethically questionable to use this signal? I do just have to walk down the street to get a signal from my church. Any feed back from this dilemma would be nice.

I would ask your neighbor (and maybe offer to pay some). If you are using the internet at the same time they are then you both only get half the speed - not a big deal for most web sites, but it can make an impact on downloads. So they have a limited amount of bandwidth and if you take some then that's kinda like stealing.

we hook in to the coffee shop near us sometimes . . . i mean it's either walk across the street for free wi-fi or use it in our living room and get a bagel there later to make up for it . . .

James... We just thought of that solution this morning... to ask around to see what neighbor has the internet and offer to split the bill with them.
Tabitha.... have you had the coffee next door? I drive by there often, but I usually stop at Coopers (closer to my house.)
So I guess I always knew the asnwer to my question. By the time we find them though, they might put a password protection on their internet. I know that's what we would be doing if we could afford it!

The way I see it, if they aren't smart enough to secure it, then they are asking people to use it.

I found this article while surfing around. It's long, but the short of it is that you can be arrested for stealing someone's wireless network.

James.... I think our neighbors got smart and put a password on their internet. But that's o.k. because I'm two blocks from a cute little coffe shop that I like to hang out with free internet.

I wish there was a cute coffee shop 2 blocks from my house . . . uh I've got a crappy gas station across the street that makes me cringe when I go inside.
