For this post you have to pretend that it's September, 10th and I am on my way to Colorado via airplane. This is only the beginning of my adventure in Colorado last week. This week has some highlights too, but I will get to them later.
I don’t really like flying alone...
What a day I’ve had! It’s official that I have been in sitting in airports and traveling between airports for 12 hours now, and I haven’t even reached my destination yet! Eric and I left our apartment at 9:30 to take me to the airport. He parked and walked me inside (like a good husband should) and even waited until I got all the way through security and I could only see him through a line of other people going through the same process.
The flight to Phoenix was pleasant with very little turbulence and I was getting excited to be on my way to Colorado. When I arrived in Phoenix I found my gate and sat there patiently. The time for us to board came and went and a few people were starting to go up to the counter to get an explanation. Turned out that our plane had a “weight distribution” problem and out of 35 passengers they could only take about half that. They started asking for volunteers and no one stood up. Then it was announced that since no one volunteered that they would take the passengers that checked in first. Now on a small side note I’ll let you know that when I married Eric I was really looking forward to having a last name at the beginning of the alphabet, but in this situation I had nothing going for me. I was on the list of the dreaded 15. A lot of people got up and started yelling at the people trying to take care of the situation (who really had no say in what was going on with the plane, but were getting all the blame for it.) All I was thinking was, “My sister is driving from Denver to hang out with me this weekend and we’re missing saturday night together.” I was bummed, but I had no choice. I guess in a way it was nice because I got a $250 voucher, but in that moment I would have rather seen my family.
So I sat at that gate for an hour and a half waiting to hear my name, get my voucher, and my new boarding passes. Well, it turned out that they weren’t getting us new boarding passes, just another flight to take on another airline. So here’s what I had to do: Lug all my luggage out side of the airport (through security, mind you) and on a bus to take me to terminal 3 where I had to re-check in and go through the security process again. I think if my bags and person would have qualified for the random search a few tears might have been shed. I sat in another part of the Phoenix airport for another hour and a half and finally got on a plane to Salt Lake City.
That’s where I am right now and it’s almost 9:30. I’ve had international flights that were not as long as this. To top it off Phoenix airport had no internet and the internet here costs $9.95 for 24 hours. Did I mention that I have no money? Did I also mention that I had a free jr. frosty and a bag of gold fish crackers for dinner?
I feel like a poor college student going home for Christmas break. But what is the real reason for me leaving my husband home alone for 8 days? My cousin T.J. is getting married next Saturday and I wanted to spend some time with my family. Since I am still on my summer vacation I thought it would be nice to come out early to hang with the family. Even though I’m exhausted I know that once I get on this last plane I am only 45 minutes from home. And I know that tomorrow I get to see my adorable niece, Lexy (see post below.) The last plane I will be on today leaves in a little under an hour. Where should I go with my $250 voucher?
